Can Anyone Prove Online Casino’s Are Not Fixed Or Is It All Just Rubbish?

December 14th, 2009

Example:
I was playing online roulette with my little system here:
I put $1 on red, if it comes out I win $2 wohoo.
I now put $1 on black, say it doesn’t come out, I double my bet to $2 on black, doesn’t come out again, double up again to $4 on black. Then it comes out. Sure, I’ve just bet $8, but I’ve just won $9 so I’m now $2 up in total.
I figured that unless this thing is fixed, my color will eventually HAVE to come out, right?
I made $250 in less than 2hrs it was great.
Then I was betting on red, and as if the computer had ‘figured me out’ it threw out 9 blacks in a row(I’m doubling my bets to the point where i can’t double it anymore and lose a fortune!) Then red arrives and I think it’s back to normal. Not so…
I switch my bets back to red. Now 10 blacks come out IN A ROW!!!
Aaaaargh
Wiped me out.
The site I was using was Betfair.com
I think this was a bit too fishy to be ‘random’ myself.
Anyone know about this stuff?

This info may help you the next time. Two reputable player protection organizations are eCOGRA and the Interactive Gaming Council. Look for the eCOGRA member mark on the casino’s home page. The Interactive Gaming Council is a not-for-profit organization founded to establish fair and responsible trade guidelines and practices that enhance consumer confidence in interactive gaming products and services, and to serve as the industry’s public policy advocate and information clearinghouse. The Interactive Gaming Council has established responsible gambling guidelines to which its members have agreed to adhere.

You lost not because the site is rigged, but because random chance is just a pain that way.
The double system you were using has a pretty big flaw, which is any string of losses and you are betting a lot just to break even again.
Also your assertion that a certain number just HAS to come out is a common gamblers fallacy. A completely fair roulette wheel is a spinning wheel and a ball. The outcome of each spin is not in any way connected to a previous action. If you toss a fair coin fairly 100 times, and it lands on heads 99 times in a row, the odds on the 100th toss is still 50/50.
A roulette wheel, even a computerized one is just a random number. It can sometimes land on black ten times in a row or red ten times in a row. But even after ten red spins it is still 50/50 what it is going to do on the next spin (ignoring for a moment the function of 0 or 00).
But the fact is on a perfectly fair wheel you are only going to win your 50/50 bet 47.37% of the time. The green numbers create a house edge of 5.26% which keeps the casino in profit.
Now I can’t prove to you that Betfair is a fair gambling site. But take a look at the Vegas skyline one day. Do you really believe that all those massive billion dollar casinos cheat? Have you any idea how many staff and government officials would need to be paid off in order to pull that off? And it would take just one disgruntled employee to blow the whistle.
The beauty of roulette is that the house edge ensures that for every $100,000 wagered on the table, the casino will make about $5,260. That’s just the way the math is. Now in the short term the occasional person may win big, but equally the occasional person will lose big too. At the end of the day that 5.26% mathematical edge cannot be beaten, no matter how clever you think your betting system is. After all, if it were that simple to beat the system, they would change the system to improve their edge.
So I think you got unlucky. I really don’t think that some team of programmers produced a specially rigged system designed specifically to take all your bankroll so quickly. What would be the point? They make 5.26% anyway. If they rig the game, people like you will stop playing. So while they got your money, you will not go back and give them a chance to win more.
Online casinos have to have numerous programmers producing and maintaining the software. Most online casinos have their randomness checked by independent agencies. In fact in this case Betfair was awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise. This kind of award is only given when the Department of Trade and Industry makes a recommendation to the Prime Minister, who then gives the award his blessing before the Queen makes the award.
Any kind of scandal, of the kind you are suggesting, would involve the site losing awards like this, its reputation, and would almost certainly be closed down by British authorities.
It would take just one disgruntled employee to come forward and blow their cover and they would be out of business within a week.
So why on Earth would a company like this that is making money hand over fist, want to risk that kind of exposure? That, to me, makes no sense. Therefore I don’t accept your argument that the site is fixed.
The fact of the matter is, you were using a flawed betting system that is known not to work. The inherent problem with it, as I have already mentioned, is that you can end up risking a lot just to break even. Just a short run of a few losses, can very quickly become very expensive. You either hit the table limit, or run out of money.
So you bet a flawed system at a game with a known house edge of 5.26%, which is a pretty steep house edge. And as a result you lost. So while I’m sorry you lost, I can’t say I am surprised, and you have said nothing that leads me to view this site as suspicious.

    No gambling is random.
    It is ALL fixed.
    You can NEVER win.
    They can NEVER lose.
You do not gamble to win, you gamble to enjoy the thrill of gambling.
Find another thrill, and gambling will not attract you.

They are not fixed, your system is not good. It is one of the oldest systems taht is proven not to work. You can win doubling, because like in your case sometimes it happens to have 8 red or black in a row which is very unlikely but it happens. If it was so easy to beat the casino just with doubling everyone would be rich now…
The best way to win money is sportsbetting and poker.
