would we have to pay it all back if they found out about it or is it their responsibility to make sure everything is up to scratch?
Would they have to mark it as a loss or would the person who made money from it get in trouble? Does this vary in different countries?

Hypothetically speaking – it would be the responsibility of the people who run the casino to pay out on all winning bets, they have a legal responsibility, and they wouldn’t be able to refuse to payout just because of a glitch.

I would say that
1) Its their responsibility to correct any glitches if any
2) If you knew about the glitch you should try to inform them

It works the other way too. I was playing a ‘game’ at Bodog.com and was informed a few days later the game had malfunctioned. They put ‘all’ of the money I wagered back into my account. No wonder I am a loyal Bodogger…

Casinos often have a notice on a slot machine that says ‘malfunction voids play.’ Similarly an online casino probably would refuse to pay out if a glitch was found. It would really depend on which casino, and which country they were based in. Local laws would probably have some impact on how it was handled.
It would also be an issue when the glitch was found. If I sign up with an online casino and play roulette for a few hours. If it keeps landing on 17, over and over again, I could keep betting it and win a fortune. If I then cash out, there is very little the online casino can do about it. With the current legal status in most countries, and the fact that they are generally in a different country to the player, there is not much they can do, unless they can prove some kind of foul play on my part.
My guess is that for the most part if this were to happen, they would have little choice but to simply write it off.
But the odds of this happening are probably worse than the odds of hitting their progressive slots jackpot! Casinos don’t stay in business long if they don’t ensure the integrity of their games.
