I already have Harrah’s and Hilton Players card. I probably have a MGM and Trop card although I haven’t played at those locations in years. I have a Borgata card, but i don’t think that is associated with any other hotels in Vegas.
Usually I just hand the pit boss my id and they sign me up. Is that the best way to do this. Am I missing out on coupons, or other things if I sign up certain ways?

I learned by a visit to Laughlin (I am Vegas local) that I got special comps by signing up online. But that is not always the case in Vegas.
But the cards of most casinos have changed since you were last here. Several casinos have been bought and sold in the last two years and each time the corporation changes the card so it will work at all their properties, e.g., MGM Mirage includes Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, Luxor, NYNY, Excalibur, etc.
Since you are mainly playing tables, I doubt it will make a difference when you sign up.
The comps you get on The Strip, especially the tables, are based on you playing at least $15 a hand every two minutes or so.

I always go to the player’s club card booth in the casinos. If there are any specials going on such as coupons, match-play, or free items, that’s where you would get to take advantage of the offer.
But if you have a Harrah’s, Hilton, Tropicana, and MGM card, that covers the majority of the casinos on the strip. All that is left is really Planet Hollywood, and maybe Stratosphere if you venture that far, a couple of others maybe. Harrah’s was running a promotion last month where you get a free Total Rewards backpack with a new player sign-up. I already had a card, so I went up to the desk and asked them if I could have one of the backpacks anyway because they weren’t doing any promotions when I did sign up for my card, and they gave me one.
Anymore, it seems like the best coupons just come from room reservations. If you book a room under a certain promotion at any given hotel, sometimes you can rake in the discounts. We stayed at Excalibur for $51/night, and it included a $25 dining credit, 2-for-1 admission to Tournament of Kings ($60 value), and something else.

I think that’s the only reason to have a card.. free buffet coupons haha
And to get comps maybe. I think if you hit big time, while you have your card in, you’d get lots of points on the card. So it might be worth it then.
Also you need the card to play certain special games every now and then (prize drawings)
