the term blackjack just means a 2 card 21 as opposed to a 3+ card 21. You must have an Ace and a card worth 10 in your initial 2 cards, so an Ace and a (King or Queen or Jack or Ten). If that happens you win immediately, usually at 1.5 times your wager. You can also get to 21 using other combinations, for example if you start with a 10 and a 6, then your third card is a 5, you’ll have 21, but not blackjack. The biggest difference between a 21 and a blackjack is the payout, blackjack gets 1.5 – 1 (if you bet $10, you win $15) and 21 gets even money (if you bet $10, you win $10). The second major difference is that blackjack wins immediately. 21 has a chance to “push” (or tie) if the dealer ends up getting 21 you win nothing and lose nothing.

In blackjack, you need to get as close to 21 without going over. You
are initially dealt two cards. Number cards (2 through 10) are each worth the value of the number on the card. The face cards (jack, queen, and king) all have the same value: 10. The Ace has two different values: 1 or 11. When you have an Ace, it is typically worth 11, but it will be valued at 1 if using 11 would put you over 21.
Since you start with 2 cards, the best hand you can begin with is an Ace (11) and a 10 (or face card, which is also worth 10). That is a total of 21, which is the best you can get, and you win immediately.
